Reduce Stress by accentuating the positive

It is only a thought and a thought can be changed. Do you know that about 90% of what we worry about, never happens? Take charge of negative thoughts become conscious of how you think and resolve to move towards positivity. The balance between  positive and negative thoughts needs to be at 3:1 to stay well and manage your life in  an average way. To flourish required us to have a ratio of 5:1 positives to negatives thoughts. Negative thinking is corrosive and take a far greater toll on us that positive thoughts according to the psychologist Dr Maureen Gaffney.

Your mood is contagious; therefore if you are a happy parent, your partner and your children will be happier. Your mood transfers to other people according to Dr Gaffney. We need to take happiness seriously as in the workplace, it is proven that employees are more productive, co operative and generous with their time, and this extends to better customer care as well! Self awareness is key, so become more aware of your mood and resolve to change through soothing words when things are difficult, to affirming words when faced with a challenge and showing trust and belief in yourself and others (even when you are not feeling it).

How to experience health and wellbeing

Develop the habit of being grateful as a gratitude journal is scientifically proven to make you happier! Once a week for ten weeks record three reasons to be grateful will result in you feeling happier – despite the fact that you still have the same stress and setbacks! This morning, do you see the blue sky or is your focus on the weather report on the impending storm?  Stop and appreciate the present moment, as worrying comes from what may happen in the future (over which you may have no control, or what happened in the past, which is over). The present moment is all you have and flourishing people have the knack of being able to appreciate the good things in their live rather than focus on what they do not have.

ATTITUDE

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on my life.  Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.  It will make or break a company, a church, a home.  The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.  We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude.  I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.  And so it is with you.  We are in charge of our attitudes.
