How to control your anger
Anger is a normal emotion that gives us the energy to assert ourselves, however we need to be in control of it or anger can be a problem. For some, they miss the early signs through a lack of self awareness.
Identify anger signs
For me, my tummy tightens, my shoulders come up to my ears, my heart beats faster and my breathing speeds up.
Take Action for Self, before you take an action against another persons
- Step Back
- Count to 10
- Take 3 deep breaths, breathing out for longer to aid relaxation, this calms you instantly and takes the heat out of it
- Exercise reduces stress (30 minutes a day washes stress from the body)
- Relaxation (yoga and meditation reduce stress)
- Talk it out – a problem shared is a problem halved
- Play more- stress means you need to play more – my daughter got me dancing & stress melted away within a minute!
- Change unhelpful thinking – Slow down & let it go..
- Eliminate the following from your vocabulary – I should.. I have to.. I must & replace with ‘I could..‘
- Ease up on yourself – reduce expectations
