What’s a parents first responsibility?

A parents number one responsibility is to take care of themselves. Self Care is No 1 as then you can take care of everything else. Just like in a plane, where you are instructed to put your own oxygen mask on first; you cannot take care of anyone, till you first take care of yourself!

Do you:

  • Have no boundaries around Time Out for you?
  • Rush and Race, drive to fast, leave late?
  • Push yourself too hard?
  • Find it hard to say No?
  • Have to do everything perfectly?

Your challenge today is therefore:

  • Mind yourself
  • Take a little time for self
  • Set a date night with your partner
  • See a friend who picks you up
  • Find a half hour to exercise which will make the rest of the day more manageable
  • Take three deep abdominal breaths to self calm, step back from conflict – ‘Deal with it later’ (when calm)
  • Eat healthy food
  • Sleep 7-8 hours every night
  • Mornings begin the night before- be more organised
  • Getting up half a hour earlier reduces stress
  • Allow adequate time to get to work or back home
  • Set boundaries around technology
